    Good enough

    Yup, I haven't updated in a while and I'm coming back with a rant.  Deal with it.
     
    I am sick and tired of people trying to do just enough to get by on their so call spiritual path.  it's yet another symptom of our society of mediocrity.  It's "good enough" to read a book and declare yourself Wiccan.  It's "good enough" to dress in viking garb, have a booze up and call yourself Asatru.  It's "good enough" to sit back and wait for the gods to present you with mind blowing cosmic revelations.
     
    And of course if anyone disagrees, well they're are just fascist poo-poo heads.
     
    A spiritual path is WORK, yet time and again, I see people trying to claim the the minimum effort is all you need.  Bullshit.  Absolute and utter bullshit.  A lot of the time one's path ISN'T comfortable,  lot of the time it DOES require sacrifice of time and effort.  It's not a hobby, not something done in one's spare time.  It's who you ARE.  It's about the growth of self and growth comes with challenge and discomfort, but the rewards are many.
     
    If you not up to it, fine, but stop trying to water down the beliefs of others to fit into your comfort zone.  It's sad and pathetic.

    Yup.  It's a LOT of trial and error.  And it gets frustrating when it seems like it's more error then anything else.
     
    But there's only one way to figure out what works best for you and why.  Work...and lots of it.

    While I can appreciate you're point, it's kind of like saying there should be a 'Pagan Book' that is our version of the Bible.  Neither one is really feasible because the how-to's and why-for's are so very personal.
     
    For example, I'm heathen, but I'm fairly unique even among heathens in that I am actively MAKING my own path, with an eye to making it accessible to others.  What I do isn't reconstructionist.  So I couldn't' give you a 'hard work' list for being Asatru, even though its' a heathen path.
     
    Does that make sense?

    As an Extreme Newbie, I have a slightly different perspective.  I'm not afraid of work (in theory I suppose; my yard and kitchen state otherwise) but it would be a little easier to find a list of what exactly this "hard work" entails.
     
    For instance, moving house requires a huge list of details, including phone calls, heavy lifting, calling in favors from friends - actual physical tasks that everyone has to go through to move all your belongings into another house and call it your home.  (I use this as an example because I'll be moving soon.)  But, and I'll admit to an extremely limited viewpoint here - I've yet to see a list of This Is What You Must Do To Commune With Your Gods And Be Pagan.  But hey, I'm big on reading the instructions.
     
    I'm also waiting on Amazon to deliver my first three decent books.  Maybe there IS a list, and I'm just not seeing it.  So this whole mini-rant could be for nothing.  :-P

    Yup ... fad Paganism is everywhere, isn't it?  Happy Meal Spirituality (with a nifty prize inside) is what that is.  I hang on to the notion that most who do that sort of thing will eventually get bored and hop onto the next cool thing that comes along.
